short form narrative

Short films are the gateway into the industry for many Australian film makers. “Contagious” was the brainchild of early career and student film makers, who wanted to showcase their talents and creativity. In 2025 several Number 8 projects are making their way around the film festival circuit. With luck we will see more of these projects once they can be released for public screenings over the next 12 months.

A Number 8 and Smooth AF production, in 12 minutes, Contagious tells the story of three friends who find themselves in the midst of a spreading disaster, and all they have to sustain them is their friendship, and coffee.

Behind the scenes

Pics or it didn’t happen! Number 8 loves behind the scenes, maybe even more than the narrative! Because people are the real story. Drawing on a background in documentary making, Number 8 BTS shorts capture the creative energy of film making.

This BTS explores the process of small group of creatives who were inspired to make a small film with a small camera. Enjoy the BTS for Contagious, a short comedy/thriller shot over three days in south west Sydney, using the Sony ZV-E1 and a whole lot of heart!

Short form documentary

Number 8 started out making short form documentaries in cooperation with adventure sports communities. Documentary story telling informs, inspires, and sometimes provokes. They help give voice to stories that may have gone untold, help us question accepted narratives, or preserve moments of life as they are to share and bring communities together.

Here is the first of a series of short form documentaries highlighting the skills and people who are a part of the vibrant Australian Skydiving community. Before Number 8 was number 8 Creative, she was jumping out of planes and telling the stories of the people who joined her.

Podcasting

Starting in 2025, Number 8 and another early career film makier got together to talk about living life Straight Out of Film School. Check out the podcast on your favourite streaming service.

Feature film

Currently in production, and planned for release in 2026, My Inner Child is the debut feature film from south western Sydney based writer Michelle Rouady. It is a reflective exploration where adults confront their inner children, exposing the tension between societal obligations and authentic living. This project is a call to break free from expectations and rediscover joy before time slips away.
